A platform for dance and its presentation in different media

Dance moves and confronts us on many levels, allows us to feel emotions and identify new perspectives and brings us closer together. No matter what its origin, dance connects us. We want to ensure that this power of dance and the inspiration and energy it brings are also visible in the digital world.

The aim of tanz:digital is to present artistic projects using digital means and to give interested parties access to current dance productions, films and documentaries.

We are currently working with tanz:digital on developing a new digital platform, which will include works in a variety of formats including streamed productions, dance films, 3D projections and film documentaries.

At the same time, the tanz:digital platform will also be open to interested artists and ensembles for the audiovisual presentation of current and past productions. The digital projects, videos and images will be accompanied by information about the ensembles, artists and producers involved, with texts on dance-related topics, aesthetics and discourses drawing connections between individual projects.

In collaboration with the Association of German Dance Archives (VDT) and using historical dance materials, this project is connecting the present and the history of dance. The aim is a permanent presentation as well as free access and visibility of the items concerned. Through the close collaboration of dance networks and dance ensembles, artists and producers, tanz:digital is forming a new community of all those committed to the digital presentation of dance.

The tanz:digital platform is being developed as part of the Dachverband Tanz Deutschland (DTD) funding programme in cooperation with the Association of German Dance Archives.

The licence agreement is currently only available in German. We are working on an English reading version. However, since German law applies, we require the German licence agreement to be signed and returned.

tanz:digital offers you the possibility to present your material in various formats. If you would like to make your own material available, we require a signed licence agreement that the material may be used on and through the tanz:digital platform.

In order for DTD, as the operator of the platform, to be able to show the documents and media in the platform on the internet in perpetuity, it needs the consent of those who want to present their documents and media on the platform. This consent is called a licence agreement. However, this agreement can also be revoked at any time. The licence agreement is made between the DTD as operator of the platform and the dance professionals (ensembles, archives, etc.) as licensors.

In order for the licensors to be able to conclude the agreement, they themselves must have clarified with all participants and rights holders that the corresponding documents and media may also be presented online.

In order for DTD, as the operator of the platform, to be able to include (archive) the documents and media in the platform and show them to the public, it requires formal rights, such as the following in particular, which are only mentioned here as examples. The legally agreed granting of rights can be found in detail in the licence agreement.

The DTD and the licensors agree on a general licensing agreement. This agreement is made once and is valid until it is revoked or amended. The specific documents and media to which the agreement relates are recorded in the "Dokumente und Medien" list, which is part of the agreement. The list shall record all documents of the same licensor which are included in the platform, with time limits or other conditions, if any. The licensor can add documents and media, withdraw the presentation or change conditions.

The DTD aims to present the licensor's documents and media on the platform permanently, if possible, but cannot promise this to the licensor, as the DTD is also dependent on the legal and financial framework as well as the conditions of the licensor.
