Adil Laraki

Adil Laraki (*4 April 1963 in Settat/Morocco) took his first dance steps in his hometown Rabat (Morocco when he was thirteen). At the age of fourteen he participated in Morocco's first opera/operetta. This was followed by many stage and television appearances. He started his professional dance training at the age of sixteen in Lausanne. In 1980 he began his studies in stage dance at the Hanover University of Music and Drama in Germany. During this time he participated in ballet productions at the Staatstheater Hannover. After graduating, he was hired by ballet director Heidrun Schwarz in Essen in 1983. He danced in choreographies by Balanchine, Van Manen, Ashton, Tetley, Joos, Cullberg and Cranko, among others. Parallel to his dancing career, he has been committed to the interests of dancers from the very beginning. Thus, from 1985 to 1993, he was elected annually as the first ensemble spokesman of the 30-member Essen Ballet. Since 1988, he has been involved as chairman of the Essen local association of the Genossenschaft Deutscher Bühnenangehöriger (GDBA) for all "NV-Bühne" employees. From 1988 to 1993 he was a member of the dance group council as well as a member of the collective bargaining commission. During this time, significant improvements in working conditions for the dance sector were achieved through his involvement. Since October 2003, he has been GDBA regional association chairman for North Rhine-Westphalia and a member of the collective bargaining commission. Since 1995, he has served as an assessor on the Stage Arbitration Court and since 2010 on the Stage Higher Arbitration Court. As early as 1990, he was elected to the works council of Theater & Philharmonie Essen and from 1994 he became an exempt works council member. He has been the chairman of the works council since 2002. During this time, he has been involved in overcoming many internal and external crises and challenges that the theater has faced. As an employee representative, he has been a member of the Supervisory Board of Theater & Philharmonie Essen since 1999 and a member of its search committee since 2001. Due to his extensive trade union and works council experience, Adil Laraki has been conducting seminars for works and staff councils, as well as other employee representatives throughout Germany and co-determination law since 2009. In doing so, the participants are educated and sensitized about the specifics of artists. He tries to give them the appropriate tools to act correctly. He is also involved in an advisory capacity in the drafting of many company agreements in favor of stage artists in numerous theaters. Since 2009, he has been a member of the WDR Broadcasting Council and on the Program Committee. He also advocates for more culture on public television. Since 2014, he has been delegated by the Broadcasting Council to the Supervisory Board of the Film and Media Foundation NRW. With the establishment of the foundation "TANZ - Transition Zentrum" Deutschland in 2010, Adil Laraki is a member of the Board of Trustees. Supporting dancers in their transition phase is of great concern to him, and his past as a dancer helps him to be a contact person for dance professionals in all matters.
