The Bavarian State Association for Contemporary Dance (BLZT) was founded in 1997 as a link between dance professionals, politics and the public. As an association, the BLZT carries out cultural-political work for contemporary dance and has set itself the task of spreading dance in all regions of Bavaria and promoting dance as part of cultural education. Its medium-term goal is the cultural-political initiative to create a dance house as a production centre for contemporary dance in Bavaria. The BLZT forms a lobby for dance.
Through a jury, the Bavarian State Association for Contemporary Dance awards project grants and scholarships from funds provided by the Bavarian State Ministry of Science, Research and the Arts. These grants are primarily awarded to contemporary dance productions, training and further education projects and events in Bavaria.
