The Landesarbeitsgemeinschaft Tanz NRW is active in the promotion and teaching of artistic dance in all its diversity: from folklore and community dance to classical and contemporary dance and urban dance styles such as breakdance and hip-hop. Our primary goal is to provide young people with a cultural-aesthetic education through dance and to dance.
Our basic pedagogical understanding is based on acceptance, tolerance, respect and responsibility. We support the integration, participation and inclusion of people from different cultural and social backgrounds, of different gender identities, from educationally disadvantaged backgrounds and of people with or without disabilities.
The protection of children and young people is a self-explanatory concern for us, and we see our prevention work as a mark of quality. The protection of children and young people relates in particular to their physical and psychological integrity, respect for human dignity and personal boundaries, as well as the free development of their personality (see our protection concept).
Our numerous activities are located throughout North Rhine-Westphalia and are based on three pillars:
I. Dance promotion: In cooperation with youth, educational and cultural institutions, as well as schools and universities, we promote and implement various dance projects and programmes for young people between the ages of 6 and 26 under qualified guidance throughout NRW. The event formats depend on target groups, concepts and content and are therefore very diverse: low-threshold offers, projects and workshops, continuously working groups, holiday camps, themed projects with interdisciplinary concepts and much more. We facilitate talent development with structured mediation concepts for the next generation of dancers and to support young people's career guidance. We also support the reception of dance, non-competitive encounters and dialogue with our event formats.
II. further education and training: We offer an on-the-job programme for dance educators, dance mediators and multipliers in cultural youth education. It is supplemented by specialist days and network meetings on current discourses in dance education, dance mediation and cultural youth education.
III. service centre, networking and advice for dance educators, institutions and cooperation partners: Concept development for the dance programme (target group-specific offers), placement of qualified dance teachers, professional support for the dance programme (coaching) and advice complete our range of tasks. We are a recognised independent youth welfare organisation and a member of the Landesvereinigung Kulturelle Jugendarbeit (LKJ), the Kulturrat NRW, the Bundesverband Aktion Tanz, the Deutscher Bundesverband Tanz (DBT) and the Dachverband Tanz Deutschland. We are funded by the Ministry for Children, Family, Refugees and Integration of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia.
