With the two-part aid program DIS-TANZEN - a support program for solo dance professionals (DIS-TANZ-SOLO) and the impulse support for dance schools and dance education in cultural institutions (DIS-TANZ-IMPULS) - the German Dance Association supports the restart and continuation of artistic and dance education activities in times of pandemic. A special focus is placed on the development and testing of new forms of artistic and dance-pedagogical or dance-mediating work. The goal of DIS-TANZEN is to strengthen the individual actors of dance in the future and to create innovative examples as well as models for the entire dance scene. Federal funding of up to 24 million euros is available within the framework of DIS-TANZEN.
DIS-TANZEN is part of the Hilfsprogramm Tanz, a jointly developed and coordinated federal dance support program by the Dachverband Tanz Deutschland e.V., the non-profit cultural organization Diehl+Ritter and JOINT ADVENTURES / NATIONAL PERFORMANCE NETWORK.
The dance assistance program is part of NEUSTART KULTUR, an initiative of the Federal Government Commissioner for Culture and the Media.

With the DIS-TANZ-START program, the Dachverband Tanz Deutschland enables young dancers to join the professional dance scene in Germany after their training. In times when auditions, trainings, performances and projects cannot take place or can only take place to a very limited extent due to the pandemic, the goal is to have as many young professionals as possible take up employment in established ensembles of municipal and state theaters as well as companies of the independent dance scene and (production) houses.
The funding mainly covers the aditional personnel costs incurred by the ensembles/stages as a result of their admission, as well as nationwide measures for further training and exchange opportunities for the graduates, supplemented by mentoring measures. The program is generally aimed at graduates from 2019 to 2021 who reside in Germany and can prove that they have a state-recognized degree in dance training in Germany. Exceptions for non-formally trained dancers are possible in individual cases.

As an essential part of the funding program DIS-TANZEN, the goal is to support "new forms of artistic and dance-pedagogical or dance-mediating work, which strengthen the resilience of individual actors in the future and can function as innovative models for the entire dance scene." The programm helps to actively communicate these best-practise examples. A digital platform will be created for this purpose. Together with dance offices, dance networks and the associations of dance artists and dance schools, newly found ways of working will be collected, discussed with dance professionals and communicated.
This moment of qualification should enable the dance artists and dance schools to reach a new level of artistic and pedagogical work with the supported projects. Resilience can be achieved to a large extent through qualification and reflection on one's own professional work. Therefore, qualification programs are developed together with associations, universities and experts. Initially, pilot workshops will be held to kick off the qualification program. The first of these is the workshop "Leadership and Leadership Competence", which was developed in cooperation with the German Ballet and Dance Theater Directors Conference (BBTK) for ballet directors and future dance leaders. Further information on the planned qualification formats will be published here shortly.
