Barcamp 23
of the German Dance Association


October 13 & 14, 2023 - PACT Zollverein, Essen


With Barcamp 23, the German Dance Association offers a participatory platform. Dance professionals and those interested in dance are invited to participate in the barcamp.

Funding content, funding structures, funding strategies are the common thread running through the two days.

In more than 25 participatory workshop sessions, a large variety of relevant topics will be taken as an opportunity to focus on the topic of "funding" - such as urban dance, accessibility, dance in old age, the large area of qualification and empowerment and also work structures, union organization, production and presentation conditions, journalism and archives, mediation, visibility.

The Barcamp will be moderated by: Raphael Moussa Hillebrand and Dhélé Tchekpo Agbetou.

The German Dance Association invites you to a multi-faceted dance gala on Saturday, October 14 at 6 p.m. at the Aalto Theater in Essen. With a varied program, the diversity of dance will be celebrated and the German Dance Award 2023 will be presented. Guests include the Ballet of the Semperoper Dresden, the Tanztheater Wuppertal, the Staatliche Ballettschule Berlin and the Folkwang Tanzstudio.

As part of the Dance Gala, the the German Dance Association will award the German Dance Award 2023 to Malou Airaudo, Josephine Ann Endicott, Lutz Förster and Dominique Mercy. The laudatory speech will be given by actress Mechthild Grossmann. Visually impaired performer Sophia Neises receives an honor for outstanding development in dance. Dance educator Peter Appel will be honored for his life's work.

The event is offered with audio description (AD) and translation into German Sign Language (DGS).

The Federal Association for Dance in Germany acts in the long term as a network partner for dance professionals, cultural practitioners, civil society actors, and policymakers. The fields of work include all issues related to the development of dance art and its visibility - from dance education, production and presentation of dance, dance research and dance science to documentation, public relations and presence of dance in the media. Furthermore, the DTD strives for a comprehensive participation of all citizens in the diversity of the art of dance.


Voices of dance - the podcast of the Dachverband Tanz Deutschland

How did the dance makers experience the Corona period? What did this period of standstill mean to them as people working with movement? How did they remain creative...?

The new podcast of the Dachverband Tanz Deutschland "VOICES OF DANCE" portrays in its first season the supported dance makers of the DIS-TANZEN program and presents their projects.
