More application options in the funding programs DIS-TANZ-START, DIS-TANZ-SOLO and tanz:digital of the Dachverband Tanz Deutschland within the framework of NEUSTART KULTUR
Three funding programs of the Dachverband Tanz Deutschland can enable further rounds of calls for proposals thanks to the renewed extension of the future and rescue program NEUSTART KULTUR of the Federal Government Commissioner for Culture and the Media. Particularly in focus is the graduate funding DIS-TANZ-START.
DIS-DANCE START
DIS-TANZ-START will make it possible for additional dancers entering the profession to be engaged for the entire 2022/23 season. Theaters, production houses and established ensembles of the independent dance scene in Germany can thus create additional or first jobs in the field of young dancers that are subject to social security contributions and employ the mostly young dancers on the basis of the minimum wage for up to twelve months. The special needs in the phase of career entry must be taken into account. An accompanying qualification and exchange program will also take place in the 2022/23 season.
Dancers aged 18 and over with a state-recognized degree in dance/ballet obtained in Germany and who reside in Germany are eligible for funding. They must prove that they are in the transitional phase from training to professional life and may have already worked in an ensemble for a maximum of one season. Non-formal training or degrees acquired abroad can also be recognized within the framework of an extended examination.
"Young professionals have no professional networks or financial reserves to fall back on," explains Anika Bendel, member of the board of directors at dancersconnect - Ensemble Netzwerk Tanz and at the Dachverband Tanz Deutschland, and adds: "The pandemic also reveals a gap in the system here: after training, young professionals are primarily left to their own devices. Both the training institutions and the theaters and companies have too few offers for the transition into professional life. We therefore look hopefully to the continuation of the support programs in order to maintain the next generation for a diverse, high-quality dance scene and to support ensembles in building structures so that they will be able to fulfill their responsibility for the next generation in the future. The high number of applications shows how great the need is, but also the perseverance on the part of dance creators."
Online registration and funding applications will be accepted on an ongoing basis until December 31, 2022. They will be checked for formal criteria and, in special cases, submitted to experts for evaluation. After formal review and as long as funding is available, the funding commitment to the theaters/companies can be made within a few days.

DIS-DANCE: DIS-DANCE-SOLO
Due to the extension and a renewed increase of funds for the funding program DIS-TANZEN, the scholarship-like project funding DIS-TANZ-SOLO for solo independent dance makers can also start into a fifth call for applications. Applications can be submitted from August 22, 2022, and the application deadline is September 12, 2022. The possible project implementation period begins in January 2023 for a maximum of six months. Funding is available to solo independent dance practitioners from all areas of dance who reside in Germany. The focus of the fifth round of calls for proposals is on transformation processes and is intended to support dance practitioners in their research, continuing education, and conceptualization projects.
The program section DIS-TANZ-IMPULS was able to support a further 121 dance schools and cultural institutions offering dance education in the spring with the fourth round of calls for proposals and is now closed.

tanz:digital
The tanz:digital funding program is also set to enter a third round of calls for proposals. In the program, projects are funded that deal particularly with the development of innovative choreographic/artistic formats and the implementation of new recording and production formats - e.g. work with bodycams, 3D and 360° recording techniques, VR and AR applications, streaming and video-on-demand productions, format development for social networks and gaming.
Dance artists, dance ensembles and dance institutions (venues, archives, dance schools, mediation projects, etc.) are to be strengthened in the media presentation of artistic productions.
Follow-up projects as well as digitization projects are welcome. The call for proposals is scheduled to start at the end of August. The funding period is expected to last until June 30, 2023.
