
Dr.Liane Simmel is a doctor, osteopath, sports psychology coach, and dancer. She studied dance at the University of Music and Performing Arts Munich and with Merce Cunningham in New York, among others. She worked as a dancer and choreographer for over three decades. Her interest and enthusiasm for the functioning of the human body led her to medicine. While still working at the theater, she studied human medicine and osteopathy. Today, she is a practicing doctor specializing in sports medicine, dance medicine, osteopathy, and spiral dynamics. As director of the “Fit for Dance” Institute for Dance Medicine, her focus is on the prevention and treatment of dance injuries. She teaches as a lecturer in dance medicine at the Palucca University of Dance Dresden and the Zurich University of the Arts, and teaches internationally on topics related to health in dance. For over ten years, she developed dance medicine at the University of Music and Theater Munich as a medical consultant. Liane Simmel is the initiator and was a long-time board member of ta.med, Tanzmedizin Deutschland, the German-speaking organization for dance medicine, whose establishment and development she has significantly influenced. Her books“Tanzmedizin in der Praxis” (Dance Medicine in Practice) and “Ernährung für Tänzer” (Nutrition for Dancers) have been published in several languages and have established themselves as standard works in dance medicine. For her pioneering work in dance medicine, she was awarded the Recognition Prize of the German Dance Award.
