The Academy of Cultural Education of the Federal Republic and the State of North Rhine-Westphalia is the central training institute for cultural education for children and young people in the Federal Republic of Germany and the State of North Rhine-Westphalia. Since 1958, it has stood for sustainable further and continuing education.


The dance department of the Academy of Cultural Education sees itself as a place where current topics in dance education are intertwined practically and theoretically. In addition to continuing education within individual course weeks, the Department of Dance offers longer-term qualifications in the following areas:

    Community Dance
    Contemporary dance education/dance mediation
    DanceAbility - Certified Introduction
    Analog-digital choreography coaching
    Performative methods in arts education
    Laban/Bartenieff Fundamentals (LBBS)
    Artistic-Systemic Therapy (KST)

The Academy of Arts Education has proven expertise in theory building, policy consulting, and the development of professional profiles and fields of work. It shapes the professional discourse through conferences, publications and expert events. The Academy is part of a comprehensive network of institutions and individuals in the field of Arts Education.

 The professional activities of the Academy of Arts Education take place on an international, national, state-wide and regional level. On the international level, the Academy supports the establishment of a European network of Arts Education as a national observatory under the auspices of the UNESCO Commission.
