Marie-Zoe Buchholz

Marie-Zoe Buchholz is a freelance multi-media performance artist, creative director and curator based in Düsseldorf, Germany. In her art she reflects on rehabilitation and reappropriation, magic and marginalization, reappraisal and futurism, focusing on inclusion, visibility and empowerment of structurally discriminated people and their stories. She belongs to the first generation of voguing performers* in Germany and was a member of the House of Melody, the first German voguing & ballroom house that established the culture in Germany.Since 2012, ZOE has participated in various stage and event productions including Chombotrope (tanzhaus NRW / Goethe Institut), Berlin Voguing Out (HAU Berlin), The Shakespeare Ball (D'Haus), Battle Room (tanzhaus NRW) and Kunststörer (Asphalt Festival). She now focuses on her own multidisciplinary pieces, in which she can also act as artistic director. Her 2020 productions include Black Magic (Britney X Festivals 2020, Schauspiel Koeln), Feminine Fragments (HAU Berlin, 2020) and FEMINA SAGA - a ritual journey (tanzhaus NRW 2019/20). In addition to stage work, ZOE is on the road as a lecturer, coach and speaker for lectures, panels and workshops. In 2020 she founded the online platform FXMPOWERMENT - #AmplifyTheFeminine and since 2021 she is co-director and curator of the Shapes & Shades project at the Junges Schauspielhaus Düsseldorf, an online event series to promote a safe(r) space in which queerness, gender and cultural diversity can be lived.
