PRESS RELEASE FROM 29.10.2021

New graduate funding for dance

4.9 million euros for the DIS-TANZ-START program

With the innovative funding program DIS-TANZ-START, the umbrella organization Tanz Deutschland enables young dancers to join the professional dance scene in Germany after their training. The aim is to enable as many young professionals as possible to get their first engagement with ensembles of municipal, state and regional theaters as well as with established companies of the independent dance scene. As a rule, they are to be permanently employed for 12 months on the basis of the respective minimum salary and participate together in further training measures and exchange offers. DIS-TANZ-START is financed by the rescue and future program NEUSTART KULTUR of the Federal Government Commissioner for Culture and the Media.

The program is aimed at artists aged 18 and over with a state-recognized dance degree obtained in Germany and residing in Germany. As a rule, the degree should not be obtained before 2019. Exceptions are possible in individual cases.

The Dachverband Tanz Deutschland supports the matching of graduates with ensembles via lists of participants as well as in direct exchange. The decision as to which and how many additional young dancers a company wishes to accept is made by the company itself. The companies can then apply for funding to cover the additional personnel costs. Until the end of 2022, 4.9 million euros are available for this purpose.
